I'm using a table saw for the first time. I am building a deck railing that will require a long 7 foot cut at a diagnole angle down a 2"X"8" piece of wood. Can I use a table saw to make this cut? Do I have to remove the kickback protector to do it? Seems the wood will strike the backside of this about 12 inches in. Also it will be hanging off the end of the table several feet to achive the 6-7 foot cut. any saftey tips on how to best do this? Thanks!

I recently purchased a beautiful marble top dining room table. Upon inspection, I noticed a slight red stain, which I removed with a cleaning sponge, but unfortunately used the abrasive side of the sponge. Now I have a dull/scratched area (but the stain is gone). It's a small area (about 2 inches) but it bothers me that it is there, especially as the table is new!
Does anyone have a home remedy to remove this kind of scratch from the marble? I do know NOW that marble is very sensitive! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have hard wood floors and my neighbor complains when I exercise. I don't want to spend too much money unless I get a large rug I can use later on, but what kind of carpet/pad can I get that will significantly lessen the sound traveling downstairs?
I need something temporary. It is a rental - I'm not laying their carpet down for them!

We just installed really nice (expensive) carpet. Due to a malfunction in our sprinkler system some water came into our newly finished basement and got the carpet wet.
This all happened while we were out of town. We we got home we noticed the wet carpet and a mildewy smell.
We pulled the carpet up in that area to dry out the pad beneath, and have a fan blowing on the carpet but I have a feeling that smell is going to remain.
Any advice from someone who has been here before?

I bought a dining table set from Cost Plus World Market 1 year ago. It's not the most high quality furniture. The wood is stained very dark/almost black. I've noticed that when cleaning the table with a damp cloth/paper, the color rubs onto the cloth, etc.
Is there some kind of product I can buy at the hardware store to protect the top of the table, perhaps some kind of do it yourself sealer or something. Or should I use an acual furniture repair place to coat something on the table?
thanks.
