How to take a hanger rack out of a closet?

burger time asked: I want to fit a big dresser into an empty closet. However the closets built in clothes rack/ shoe rack is in the way. My biggest problem is the shoe rack, which is just a plank of wood secured on a raised edge that runs the length of the closet. I thought perhaps the shoe rack would have been secured with screws or nails going vertically into the raised edge, but this is not the case. It seems that the shoe rack is secured to the wall somehow. Looking at the seam between the wall and the rack, there seems to be a "z" shaped screw of somekind going into the wall on one side and into the rack on the other.
